Reading About The Rumor

facebook rumors

Rumors never seem to die. Every time you think they’re gone, they just re-appear in another time from a different person. This one has been passed around since at least 2012. It is hard to tell rumor from truth sometimes, and my friends are honestly trying to help me, which I appreciate. But I really doubt if Facebook itself is suddenly going to make all of our posts and pictures publicly available. It would be like shooting itself in the foot. A more likely scenario would be an outsider hacking into the Facebook database, and changing everything to “public” just for the heck of it.

When rumors pop up, you can get some good information from the website Snopes.com. Read about how and when the rumor started, and if it’s true, false, or partially true. I’ve found this website to be very helpful. Here’s a link to their post on the Facebook privacy rumor:

My thought – be mindful of what you post on Facebook. Would it be devastating for everyone to read your post? Would it be embarrassing if your boss saw a nasty picture of you on Facebook? Would you be ashamed of any of the words you wrote if Jesus were looking at your page? I’m sure at some point, there will be a security breach of monumental proportions and the little privacy we have left will be lost. I can’t control what happens in that situation, but I can control what I post myself. As much as it depends on me, I will try to convey love and encouragement on Facebook.
