The Gift Of The Magi – by O. Henry (1905)

The Gift Of The Magi

A husband and wife – Jim and Della – find themselves almost penniless at Christmastime. Each one searches diligently for a gift that will express their love and devotion for the other. In the end, the gift does not matter as much as the sacrifice required to buy it. The story is tied in with the Biblical account of the Magi (Wise Men) coming from the east to bring gifts to Jesus (Matthew chapter 2).

This wonderful short story was printed in the New York Sunday World newspaper on December 10th, 1905 and has been published in book form many times since. It has been made into a movie multiple times, but read the book first! You can find a copy of it in your public library, or online:

It is also available as a free Kindle download on Amazon.
